The Mentalist revolves around Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) who uses his advanced mental skills to help solve cases. A Mentalist is one who uses mental acuilty, hypnosis or suggestion – these are skills that Patrick has picked up in a former career as a a psychic. Ever since losing the two most important people in his life to a serial killer, Patrick devotes his time to the CBI and his mastery of manipulation.
